- Used for certain objects in ancient times, Amber is a fossilized vegetable resin whose colour varies from pale yellow to deep ochre and contains inclusions. It is worked like marble - cut, turned and polished.
- Opaline is the noun and adjective given to glass rendered opaque by the addition of lead or tin oxydes. It was produced in Venice in the 16th century. In France it was in 1810 that the Baccarat and Saint-Louis factories began producing numerous blown and moulded opalines. Their colours help differentiate artists and factories.
