Chrome - Silver Plated Metal
- Although it was discovered as early as 1785 (by Vauquelin), chrome was above all used in the period 1925-30 to decorate the furniture of the period. It covered elements of iron or steel with a silver-white and extremely shiny coat.
- Silver-plated metal is an alloy of copper or nickel silver covered with a fine film of silver that is used to imitate silverware (the process has been forbidden several times in France, particularly under Louis XIV). Very fashionable since the 19th century, objects in silver-plate have their own particular hallmark.
