A totally innovative movement started around 1890, brilliantly launched by the Universal Exhibition. It was the first time a style was not created in Paris : the town of Nancy encouraged cabinet-makers, artists in glass and ceramists. Emile Gallé with his variety of creations was the most influential in this style inspired by Japan.
Nature, flowers and insects invaded decoration and women were everywhere. Majorelle, Guimard, Vallin, Gruber, de Feure...
At the same time furniture inspired by older forms including Henri II, was being produced.
Furniture, materials, decors, etc : fewer (commodes, cupboards, tables, an nests fo tables, desks, sideboards, chairs with branchlike legs were produced in mahogany with fruit wood marquetry.
